Let it roll

Welcome to my first post!

I’ve been meaning to make a Blog for a long time, and I’ve been trying to wrack my brain on what exactly should I write about? But then here it is, finally!

Ever since I graduated, I have been into the world of number crunchers and my life has been exactly like it is for every accountant or financial analyst out there, fiddling with a cluster of numerical data, arranging them in a certain age-old way on their spreadsheets (lately on some advanced reporting software) to make some sense out of it to the senior management, ultimately for the elites to come back asking for those famous ‘quarter to 5PM’ queries on an average 72 times before they decide it is worth sharing with the money lenders or implementing the next move in the strategic business plan.

Fast forward – 2017, I moved to Canada but the work life did not change and one fine day while performing my daily job duties I went to see one of my colleague who was busy making a powerpoint presentation on ‘opportunities in the world of finance and accounting‘. The first slide read – Accountants or Bean Counters. I wasn’t surprised because this is actually the common notion about the Accounting Profession, but what surprised me is that it was coming from a qualified CPA with several years of experience as a Financial Analyst.

Even in 2018, in the era of the Internet and in the times when data is the biggest resource in the world, the perception is quite skewed I believe. The companies are investing more money than ever to get meaningful insights to build better strategies for future policy implementation. One type of Professionals that need to embrace this change with open arms and build a strong foundation for future workers in the same field is the people working in Finance & Accounting. After all, there can not be a better time to educate people about the fact that Accounting is leaps and bounds ahead of just counting beans.

Already possessing the theoretical and working knowledge of Finacial Accounting and Reporting, and having a passion for all things computers, IT, and computer science, I decided to combine to two: Financial Reporting and Data Visualization. And thus this blog!

I always find that the first post in any blog is always the most awkward. Well, …hopefully that changes in the upcoming weeks!

By the way, I made up that 72 number.  #JustSaying

Thanks for reading!
Much Love
